A winemaker with a unique story

Valter Mattoni, nicknamed “Roccia”, was born in 1960 in Castorano, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, and is a passionate and determined winemaker. His passion for viticulture is rooted in the stories and legacy of his grandparents, Nazzareno and Giuseppe, and his father Gaspare, all deeply connected to the tradition of homemade wine.

The territory and production philosophy

Valter Mattoni’s farm is located between the Adriatic Sea and the mountains of Gran Sasso and Maiella, at around 300 metres above sea level. This strategic position offers an ideal microclimate for viticulture. The soils, of alluvial origin and rich in clay and stony structure, allow the cultivated varieties to express themselves at their best.

Among the grape varieties grown are Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Sangiovese and a small parcel of Bordò, an ancient local variety related to Grenache.

Authentic wines with character

Valter Mattoni’s vineyards are cultivated naturally, without the use of synthetic chemicals and with full respect for the environment. Winemaking takes place through spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, while ageing is carried out in French oak barriques, both new and second or third passage.

Annual production is deliberately limited to around 7,000 bottles, each of which reflects the authentic character of its land.

Valter Mattoni is not only a wine producer, but above all a true guardian of Marche winemaking tradition. His work is a tribute to the land, keeping alive the bond with his roots and offering wines deeply connected to tradition.
